How to Care for Your Handmade Beanie

A handmade beanie is made to last — but like any hand-crafted piece, a little care goes a long way. Here’s how to keep yours looking its best.

Washing

Always hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent. Avoid hot water, which can cause the yarn to felt and shrink. Gently work the detergent through the fibres, then rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.

Drying

Never wring out your beanie — this distorts the shape. Instead, press it gently between two towels to remove excess water, then lay it flat on a clean, dry surface to air dry. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources like radiators.

Storing

Fold your beanie loosely and store it in a drawer or on a shelf. Avoid hanging it for long periods as this can stretch the ribbing at the brim.

Pilling

Over time, you may notice small pills (tiny balls of fibre) forming on the surface. This is normal with knitted items. A fabric comb or de-pilling tool will remove them quickly and restore the smooth finish.

The reversible bit

Our beanies are reversible, so remember to turn them inside out occasionally when washing — this ensures both sides get a proper clean. It’s also a good excuse to try the other colour combination.
